Has anyone ever tried a PCB coil on a PI detector?


I am refering to a coil made from FR4 and 1oz copper.


That seems like it would help the rcvr if the coil


were spread over a much larger area. But the down-


side would be less depth than a wire wound coil.


Any comments from the experts??

Spiral coils are generally less efficient than cylindrical or even scramble wound coils with regard to the EM field. But I believe that some manufacturers use them. I have a PCB transfer ready to go for a 7" coil that I want to compare with an equivalent scramble wound type.

Sorry, no, I did it in FrameMaker. Currently looking for a good schematic/PCB package... any opinions?

I use Orcad for schematic capture and Pads Power PCB
for layout. Pads is not real user friendly but it
does have all the tools needed for any kind of pcb
layout. Another reason, I can import pads files right
into my Hyperlynx simulation software to check signal
integrity. There are several good pcb layout pkg's
around, so check the user interface before you buy.

I use Ulticap + Ultiboard.


Am quite pleased with it, but make sure you get the hardcopy manuals with it.


Do not get EDWin (if it is still arround)


I bought that first, and it has a lot of bugs in it.


One of the most annoying is that when you delete a wire, the wire will dissapear from screen.... but not from the net... quite nice bug.


Another nice bug is that the PCB on paper is different than on screen... also quite nice, specially after etching & drilling the PCB)


All in all a waist of money.
