I am assembling a gradiometer based on FGM-3h. I connected directely the sensor output to inputs of 4013 flipflop without a Schmitt Trigger circuit. Have anybody tried it before? Does it work?

Another question, does the circuit printed on mr.Carl Moreland article works with the FGM-3h just on West-East direction (on the linear response)?

Thanks in advance.

Francisco,

The FGM-3h should not be used for the gradiometer circuit because the FGM-3h will saturate and become useless unless it is kept in an east-west position. Please only use the FGM-3 in Carl's circuit.

Francisco,

To answer your other question, I've tried the 4013 both ways, and it works best with a Schmitt trigger. Especially on the clock input to the 4013; the rise time of the pulse from the FGM-3 isn't sharp enough and the chip I used overheated. I used a 4093 on both FGM-3 outputs.
