As I mentioned on the front page, I would like to get some construction articles online. Please leave a forum message if you have a preference for any particular articles or type of detector. Avoid the "unknown" references as I do not have access to them.

Also, if anyone has the ETI magazines listed I would be grateful to borrow them or to obtain copies of the articles.

Thanks,

Carl

Carl,

A friend of mine in Germany hunts with a Fisher 1265 that was modified by a German EE. Somehow he added a very good target tone I.D. circuit to the machine. It turned a good machine into a phenomenal one. Could this be done to the more modern 1266? I think with the 1266's depth range and tone I.D. such as my friends you could make a machine that would outperform the original and most others in use. How dificult would it be to design/build such a contraption? Jungle Jim

I don't know the difference between the 1265 and the 1266, nor do I know what they originally did to the 1265. My guess is that they took the I&Q demod signals (which give you the target phase angle) and fed them to a tone converter of some sort. This is not too hard on analog machines, but on the newer digital machines I'll bet the I&Q demod is done digitally after an ADC. This sort of stuff is generally done in a microcontroller which means you might not be able to get to the needed signals. Pure speculation, need more info.

Hi Carl, a friend sent me info to your page, great idea. I desperatly have been serching for a construcyion article for a 2 box unit, the old "Deep seaker" kind. Would appriciate any help there. Have been an electronics tech since 1968, Ham since ? Thanks for this great forum and page, done put it in my favorites.
