hi carl-

tried out that iron on transfer film for

making pcb..that stuff is interesting

and a lot less effort than the photo

techniqe...got it on the first try---

with the iron set low temp--had a sheet of

teflon film to use in btwn. in case of

iron sticking--it was not required..

too bad the dreaded pen is required in a few

places---but not too bad--

did not expect the blue to go with the toner--

interesting to use the toner as an adheasive..

did try a little hotter--phenelic warped a little

and cu got a little discolored under blue/no toner

what software did you use to generate the artwork

and laser printer--600dpi--mine 300

just a words- to make pcb with pads as a surface

mount type--bend pins in on std. dip at the knee

and solder in place---save much time less drill.

except feedthrough (could bend pins out also).

do same for resistors etc...practical approch.

The key to success is clean, CLEAN, CLEAN!!! Then don't touch the copper surface, & make sure there are no edge burrs.

Yes, I've noticed this too.

600dpi, although my 300dpi is pretty good.

Yes, surface mount is easier, but I like to socket my IC's, esp those $24 ones.

Fat Quarters Software (me and Laurie) are having some PCB's made. They'll be ready in a week; by Oct. 22nd. All the holes will be drilled too! See the last page of Carl's article for details.

Erich
