Unknown Find

I found this in my yard and it was buried at about 4 to 6 inches deep. The nail was still in the hole when I pulled it out of the hole I dug. The nail being placed like that makes me think that in order to mount whatever this is, you would have to bore a 2 and 1/2 inch round hole. Maybe it was for a door or an antique chest.

I think you might find it is A caster base from a chair or something heavy like a Piano or a couch etc,

Yup! It is a steel caster no doubt. also it was a swivel type.

You guys are probably right. What threw me off was that the nail was placed thru the hole facing the cylinder when I pulled it out of the ground. I thought the only way to mount this would be to bore a large hole so the cylinder would fit into the wood then nail it down to secure it.
