Go Up Go Down

My best find this year doesn't add up to a whole lot of money, but it's my favorite because I pulled this out of a place that'd been pounded hard over the years.

It was my second day out at this site and after I had hunted for about 3 hours or so I was about to call it quits. It was pretty cool out, and the overcast skies and wind made it feel plain cold. I'd found a few wheats and around 2.50 in clad, but nothing that got my heart pounding.

I said one more coin to myself and started sweeping my way back to the car. I ended up in an area that used to be the path to an old concession stand, and the trash in the ground was driving me crazy. I normally keep a 5 or 3" coil in my car, but not today, of course.

I slowed my sweeps down to try to find a good target between all of the junk. I got a decent hit, cut a plug, and there around 4" down was a beautiful Barber dime. That got me interested all over again. I replaced the plug, tamped it down, and started sweeping again at a snails pace.

In less than 5 minutes I got a very solid hit that nulled out completely when I hit the disc trigger. I thought I'd dig a nickel, and was hoping for a Buffalo. Cut the plug, swept the hole, broke the plug and I saw a beautiful gold rim and hoped it wasn't costume jewelry. I had the goofiest smile on my face as I brushed the dirt from the charm and dropped it into my inside coat pocket.

I must've looked at that piece 20 times while driving home, still not sure if it was the real McCoy or not. My eyes aren't what they used to be, so I rely on my hunting buddy Joe (Twistidd) to check the dates on the coins I can't quite focus on.
As soon as I got home i grabbed my 2.00 reading glasses and looked on the back of the charm. Bingo..... 18kt.

In two trips I found 2 mercs, 1 barber, a couple of bucks in clad and an 18kt gold charm all from a hunted out park.

 Thanks for looking!
 Mike

PS. If anyone knows who the figure is on the charm, please post it here. I've seen the figure before, but not sure if it's an ancient Greek, Turkish or Indian god.

It says Gold - 750 on the back. I found out from a friend that that equals 18kt. Before this find I never knew they were stamped like that. See, I learned something new again because of this hobby.  Teach

My best find was this Gold Nugget which my wife named "The Golden Arm" it weighed just under 9 ounces. Detected in the Western Australian Gold Fields in July It took me well over two hours to dig it out of solid rock.
