I hunted this rare bullfighting poster online from a seller in Argentina. This is the first bullfight poster announcing the opening of the bullfight arena called Las Arenas de Barcelona, Spain, in 1900. The seller found it in a box full of books and old documents that he bought in an estate sale in Argentina. I quickly framed and preserved the 112 years old document. The magnificent bullfight ring witnessed hundreds of bullfights until 1977 when it was closed due to its limited capacity. The building was abandoned and became a hideout for criminals, drug addicts and shelter for the homeless. In 2011 it was converted into a shopping mall that still keeps the outer facade.

Although I have a collection of vintage bullfighting posters, I'm not a fan of bullfights, never was, and never will be. I collect them for their beauty and the history behind them. Las Arenas is located in Barcelona, the capital of Catalonia, and second largest city in Spain after Madrid. Catalonia was the first region in Spain to ban bullfighting in 2010.  Great

The answer is yes. Bullfighting poster are sought after, especially if the event had some importance. For examples, the opening or last event in a particular bullring. There is one famous poster from Manolete's last bullfight. He was considered the best in the world, but during a bullfight celebrated on the 28th of August of 1947, he lost his life to the fifth bull fought that day. After virtually killing the bull with his matador sword, the bull still had enough strength to gore him on the right thigh, thus making him bleed to death. This poster was sought after by collectors around the world (I own an original one). Repros were made for tourists and collectors also pay well for the vintage ones. Any poster depicting Manolete is valuable. But there are also other famous bullfighters whose posters have value as well.
