Go Up Go Down

This old watch was in a box with "old Russian watch" written on it. Other than possibly being brought back from WW2, I have no idea where it came from. Anyway it says Habeir Type on the front and on the back, when it is opened, there is Padpuka Racobr Habeir Type, an oval with N506415 and then a shield and numbers here and there on the inside of back cover. I do not think it is Russian because of alphabet. Type is an English word, the others, I have no idea and I have tried all the languages at the translator on dictionary.com

It is not a very good scan. The hands have disintegrated, but I think the watch is silver. I have looked at old pocket watches online all evening, but none are similar.  Any ideas or ID would be appreciated. It is heavier than one would expect. Sue

Hello Sue, if I am not mistaken this seems to be Portugese. However it seems to be a name of the manufacturer.

Regards,

Christian

Thanks for the link, Paul. Goes to show that new info pops up on the web all the time as I couldn't find a thing earlier. I've since had the watch opened and, although the face of the watch is in bad shape, the inside looks just like the picture on the site. Gilt - hmm, gold. I'm not familiar with gilding. Plating, leaf. . paint? I do know that it doesn't mean solid <laugh> I'll have to email the site and see what else I can find out - nice to see another one though. Again, TY for your assistance.

Thanks Christian - Certainly could be a proper name (manufacturer) since it's not in dictionaries. Sue

Sorry to up an old post, but I have the same kind of watch, with the engraving Padpuka racobr
Пaberr Ђype
N?159976.
It could refer to "Flobber Type", kind of watches mainly used by the military in Europe.....

That's really neat that you have the same watch. The weight of it and such a solid feel is what captured my attention. Welcome to the forum, Elea.

Hi Sue,
It is a very interesting forum, and I am glad I found it by searching about this watch.
Mine is solid gold (14K), and as a chronograph too.
I asked a friend of mine who studied Russian. She told me it is old Russian (I guess before the revolution of 1917, it gives us a clue to date the watches.)
So Habeir Type could be Pavilch Bourie, that is Pavil Bouri, the name of the seller of the watch probably. As for Padpuka Racobr in modern letter it would be Rabrica Tchaiovou. the translation is very tough and it could mean "to the tempest"... It is not very helping, but it is all I found....

Regards
Elea

HI Elea,
I'm so glad you posted on here about the watch as now I realize it was from a web search. That's neat and I'm so glad I made the post originally as there isn't much online about that particular watch. The glass on the front of mine has been replaced with what seems to be poor fitting type of plastic so the hands disintegrated. In poor enough shape that I thought it maybe should just be tossed away, but it was so heavy that I always kept it. I hope yours is in better shape. I didn't open it until right about the time I posted so I was surprised to see how nice it was inside. Saying yours was solid gold didn't surprise me - earlier where gold plate was mentioned, I really kind of doubted because of the weight. There's so many jeweler's marks inside mine - yours, too, I imagine. I'm glad your friend says Russian as, like I said, on the box someone had written 'old Russian watch'. I've always assumed that it was brought here from WW2 - nothing to back that up with though. My WW2 relative was such an honest person that I think he bought war 'souvenirs' from vendors as he wouldn't have stolen anything. I have an old sword that was remade into a dagger, a nice little hand saw - things that could be stuffed in a duffel bag.  Where did you get yours? Estate auction? I really do appreciate that you posted and if I find out anything more about the watch, I'll let you know. Please do the same. This is an exceptionally nice international forum that covers lots of areas of interest. I'm really glad you found it, too. Sue
