Just a silly question, but did you find the Byzantine coins yourself?

Dear nickel_n,

Don't I wish!  I buy uncleaned bronzes in larger lots when I can, I would rather have the desert coins, versus euro environment (wet) but any in conservable shape interest me and I also trade very well for them.  I had chance to go to europe back in the early 80s, went to london in fact but it was just a training thing, no treasure hunting except the girls over there are certainly a treasure, i mean it....anyway...i have not been back since.  Now I will not fly anymore so I am vicariously enjoying the metal detecting that is going on over there, and I do my part to conserve too.  Sustainment Metallica instructions are free at the treasurehuntingwithbillgallagher blog btw...I did lose on of these in the yard once and had to find it, it rang like a bell.  I have found silver and low k gold coins in these lots too, not often, but always a welcome surprise.  Mostof these lots I acquire are actually sub-hoards in every sense of the word.  Thanks very much for writing!  One more thing, the books to attribute these crusader coins and byzantines cost much more than the coins themselves, or did, now a lot of its online and digitized, thankfully.  My life has been enriched beyond my wildest dreams because of these coins and the study of them.

Thanks for your informative reply.
I always thought the people that sell "unclean un-researched" coins they where just using the words to get you to buy them.
Thanks again. I will give them a go. There are so many on EBay these days
