In the book, a compass is used but the device you see here uses an iron ring, slightly magnetized like a compass, which has two coils wrapped around it. The ring is dangled over potential treasure and the meter moves if it sees any large metallic objects. Yes, metallic. Including gold, silver and ferrous metals. The reason is that all metals cause a deflection of the earth's magnetic field and that is what this device senses.
Any deviation is sensed and the meter reports the metal mass. A two box machine will do better but this device is truly an antique. Read the book I cited above. It's a free download. Besides being a good book to read, the theory behind this device is there. Like I said, the hunter would like one of these devices but has to settle for using a compass he has with him. And he finds what he is looking for.

This thing doesn't work on itself but apart from that it is made in '30s and this makes it a rare collectors item as well.It is an antique and at the same time is one of the best tools ever made for dowsing.
The difference in this compared to other pendullums is that when on physical dowsing it can take you on the exact spot where the target lies.It is said and advised from all dowsing societies that SCHUMFELL DETECTOR is the best solution if you want to avoid ghost signals.
