Go Up Go Down

This sight looks to be one of the best I've come accross so far. I'll tell a little bit about myself to get started. I've been a treasure hunter of sorts most of my life, soon to be 61. started metal detecting in 1997, bought my first detector 1n 1997 at an auction. I had allways been curious about the hobby since seeing adds for kits and detectors in old west magizines back in the mid to late 60's. I guess I didn't think
it was on my priority list because of supporting a family and meeting the basic needs catagory. Like alot of others in the early stages of the desease I took to bottle digging and snooping around old abandond farm sights looking for relics of all kinds, also venturing through flea markets and auctions to satisfy my treasure hunting. It wasn't long however after buying the first detector, a Garrett Ground Hog, that I became disgusted with finding trash so in the closet it went. Along about the spring of 1999 I spoted a guy in a park MDing a volleyball
court. He had a Whites Spectrum, headphones on, knee pads on, and a sand  scoop. I couldn't resist asking him the big question we all get at one time or another. Do you ever find anything good? He held out a gold ring and said oh yeah all the time. we talked alittle bit and I told him of my detector and trash finds. He then invited me to a treasure club meeting and I went. I was impressed with the club members and their finds. After going to the club meetings a few times I was hooked and joined, soon after I bought a Garret Gold stinger since I was working in Colrado. The next detector was a Minelab Explorer SX which I still use. Over the last ten years I've owned a Whites Classic ID, Tesoro Gold detector, Whites MXT, an ACE 250, and Just bought  the ACE 350. I enjoy just about any kind of treasure hunting, but I'm not into divingso much. I travel alot due to the line of work I'm in, I'm a Dent tech, I fix hail damaged autos so it this traveling affords me some interesting metal deting oportunities. I try to do a little research where ever I'm at, like old gohst towns, beaches, schools, churces, ect.
I'm usually into meeting new THing freinds and swaping stories over a cup of coffee and maybe doing a little coin shooting or some form of THing. Well I guess thats about it. I'm glad I foud this Forum it looks really interesting. Later downhomedigger  Detecting

Great intro, mate, and a fine history in the hobby you have. A good number of people start out full of enthusiasm and get fed up with finding rubbish along the way. Even guys who have been doing it for decades are not happy about the trash. I look at it being the closest thing to community service that I can do without wearing an orange jumpsuit.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Go Up Go Down

I have family in Siloam Springs and I still own part of a rental in Fayetteville over by the football stadium. I planned on selling the place here in North Texas and moving up there myself, but the economy messed those plans up. I don't get to visit as much as I had planned either. Sorry for not getting back sooner. I haven't visited this site in a long time. martin
