Not only digging them but just finding them too. About 2 years ago someone close to where I live found and unexploded WWII munition. We had to call in the local authorities as well as EOD from the service. Please be careful with these.

Yes Unfortunately these are everywhere left by all goverments who where engaged in conflicts
I have heard of things still washing up on shore in europe from WW11, esp around the beaches of Normandy. I just recently watched a Treasure Quest program where they were in the english channal and there are still underwater mines located there. Its just amazing how many unexploded munitions are actually out there,,,Best Wishes to All,,,,Rob

That's sad...
I've seen a WWI 3-inch projectile detonate after 80 years underwater (90ft. deep.)
A torch was used and the projectile (the steel head, not the brass casing) was rolled into place in front of the torch flame pulled by a string (pulled from a distance). After about 40 seconds of the flame the projectile went off!...again after 80 years underwater!!!
You truly never know. ???

Hi Wiser.
You are absolutely correct! I read a story not long ago, About a man who was a demolitions expert for the local police dept who was retired. He was in the bussiness of civil war relics, He defused many civil war ordanance pieces, unfortunately it was a piece that he was working on that took his life. You can never be to carefull with unexploded munitions.

Vintage Find in Landfill: A Civil War Projectile
I just saw this yesterday. A landfill employee searching for metal to recycle found a 16-inch-long hunk of metal described as a "projectile" from the Civil War. Bomb squad blew it up, but a collector said it was valued between $300-1000.
