Heres a safety tip that I would like to share,
If You happen to find a Antique Firearm, such as a precussion or flintlock. These types of guns were left loaded, and many are found this way today. I have found several in this condition. depending on the enviroment the firearm is found in. in one case I had a double barrell percussion shotgun that was made in the late 1800s and belive it or not the powder was still good and I did discharge it from the gun with the use of a percussion caps. after locking the firearm down. But these days You can purchase a tool for about 20.00 to clear the chambers. Just thought id pass this along. Have a good one,,,,Rob

Egad; My detecting buddy and I were exploring an old moonshine still area. Our main objective was gold nuggets in the stream, but dug up some neat old stuff. One that he dug was an old damascus barrel shotgun. All the wood was gone and it is rusted up, never thought about it having a load in it. Guess I'll give him a call about it.

They were left loaded because they were lost that way - probably in action. Thanks Rob for the good advice!

Many of the firearms were left loaded, for easier access, for preditors, or unwanted guests, and it was just easier to slap  a cap on the charging mechanism. and wa la ready to fire! but this was without the percussion cap on the firearm, the firarm was considered to be safe in the household.,,,,, Rob
