Hello Hardluck
What is the flag you are displaying these days? Of more interest is what Australian pirate treasure legends do you think are worth more research.

Hover your cursor over the flag icon and you'll see he is currently flying the flag of French Polynesia......what he flys when he boards you likely will be entirely different.  Smiley

Hello all

Bobsreturn and Mercenarie there are many treasure legends of lost mines and hidden treasures all over Australia. Some will turn out to be nothing more than legend, other will have more truth  to them. The adventure is in discovering truth behind the legends.

Bobsreturn North Queensland has many legends of lost treasures and lost mines. I am interested to hear which lost reefs you searched for?

Mercenarie there is a fair few lost treasure stories from WA, have you searched for any of them?

Hardluck

tried looking for the lost mine above daintree , prospecting in the rainforest in that steep country, in the scrub is hard work ,this was 20 years ago , you hear these things and it sounds so real , the area is now world heritage ,so its not worth looking . but theres lots of tales out there . and there is so much fun to be had in the search ,and the history of the area . need some new rumors to look for . best regards Bob

Hello Bobsreturn

Sadly that is the case in many regions. Anything of promise the land gets made into a national park or world heritage Area. There is a few legends of lost reefs from around your area. There is the story about an old prospector called Piggy sievers who allegely found a lost reef. And there is christie Palmerston who was allegely the wayward son of an English lord, who spent most of his life roaming around the coastal ranges of the cape, allegedly discovered gold some where near a place called Palmerston Pocket.

Some old timers from Mossman believe that all three stories are connected to one discovery. It has been belived that the discovery was made in one of the creeks leading into the Daintree river. There is in the upper reaches a small gold feild so it is not impossible that there is more hidden in the dense scrub country now protected as a world hertiage area.

Have you explored further north up the Cape?

Hardluck

hi mate havent looked for some years, got to get out soon though , reading a book called fools gold at the moment , interesting stuff esp the benito? bass straight pirates . but some is likely  fraud in my opinion ,yet there is some truth in a lot .some of the novels seem to feed on treasure island type tales . certainly makes life interesting. and well worth following up , esp christie palmerston , as there are several gold shows on the range north from tully to the cape . most of it in world heritage . cheers Bob

lots of shipwrecks off the W.A. coastline and research will show that some "treasure" was brought ashore and buried in the dunes before the survivors went to Indonesia in small whalers. never any mention of whether the "treasure" was ever found again.

One coastal town was the site of the recovery of some Dutch "guilders" from an East Indiaman ship that was wrecked offshore.
