Gday Ken,

I have done a fair bit of detecting at Ophir, up near Orange in NSW.Found quite a few small nuggets there, the biggest being 34 grams, but I have seen plenty of nuggets to 12 ozs from there.Looks only a small area but is in fact quite large.
The camp ground there is good with toilets and shelters. If you need more info let me know.

  Cheers-John

Hi John Thanks for your information. I will download a Map of the area and have a look. It should be getting cold down there. I used to stop at Orange on my way to Queensland when I was in the Airforce. What are there charges like foe camping there?

Hey ken.
Opher is good place to have a look, there was a 27oz nugget found along the walking track a few months ago. If should try along the Belubula river arounda place called junction reefs not very well known and can be a bit hard to access but worth it

I'm in Qld and we have the most retarded mines and forestry departments and regulations in all of Australia here. The forrests are out of bounds as is almost all crown land. But speaking as someone who lives in SE Qld there is still hope. Granted most of SE Qld's gold finds of the past are now in national parks, state forrests or forestry reserves, there is still hope. Make yourself a friend who owns land in or around the gold bearing areas and go for it. I can say from personal experience that the Dec-Jan floods, whilst devastating for live and limb were fantastic for fossickers. In the last 3 weeks I have been detecting and specking creek bottoms and have been richly rewarded for my efforts. Remember everyone, that the big stuff will stay in the bottom of a creek or river because of it's weight. That being said, I have a large collection of rusty guns, railway spikes and horse shoes and general rubbish that is guaranteed to piss off the missus ( if I show it to her ).( man cave is out of bounds). The biggest problem you will have above water is the angry snakes and in the water you have the leaches. Still want to prospect here? All I can say is snake repellers, busmans insect repellent and a wet suit .and enjoy. Till next time guys. Paul.
