Hi Gray -Nomad    Welcome

Sounds like youre in the right place for a spot of nugget hunting , lucky bugger !   Great        What sort of detector are you using now ? Ive got a Minelab GP Supreme  but I havent got to give it a good try out in the goldfields down there yet .
I was wondering how do you go about accessing some of the gold fields ? I suppose they are pretty well guarded by the locals . I think you need a miners permit to fossick in Victoria  dont you?

Hi aussie,

I got a ML 3500 and had it modded by Ismael.
Have not had a chance to try it in anger yet. Also got a White MXT for the missus Grin.

To prospect in State Forests, you only need to have a "miners right" costs $25.00 for 2 years.
We owe this to the miners of the Eureka Stockade. The state forests are huge and with a MR in your pocket, you can do your prospecting where you want. Nobody is going to stop you. Just behave sensibly, etc.
Without a miners right and get court, you are more than likely to loose all your equipment, inc. your car/4X4.

Here in Gippsland the stuff is mostly very flakey and very little, to get nuggets, you will need to get to Maryborough area. Still good stuff to be had. Same conditions apply, Miners right in your pocket and state forrests and your'e OK to prospect.

Try this Australian Website as well:

Hi aussie,

Although the bush fires were terrible with loss of life, personal injury and loss of property, they were not generally at the gold fields itself.

In the Golden Triangle, due to the severe drought conditions of the last 10 years, there is very little undergrowth. I was quite surprised how bare the ground is there as compared to Gippsland. I suppose, once it rains, the undergrowth will re-appear in the Golden Triangle as well.

The more reason to get stuck into it now.  Detecting

See you up them thar hills
Frank

I was wondering how easy is it to get onto the properties around the golden triangle ? I suppose the mining companies have leases everywhere and it would be hard to go anywhere prospecting .  I know at Gympie most of the town is tied up with mining leases .

Hi Aussie,
Private property, of course you need to ask. Might be helpful to go 50/50 with your finds as a matter of courtesy. I never prospected on private property, as there is tons and tons of state forest land to prospect on, but I have heard that most land owners are quite co-operative.

"Miners Right"!!!!!!!!!!
You MUST have a miners right in your pocket.
If you do, in state forests, even IF a mine lease is taken out, the leasor cannot stop you from prospecting on the actual lease, only if you enter buildings, equipment, tunnels, etc.
But best to check this out from a second source.
Check them out:

Well Aussie,

I am thinking of moving to the triangel area, for obvious reasons.
I just retired and have a few more things to sort out.

Maybe we can.
PS. What makes you so sure about your co-ordinates?  Smiley
Just curious. Smiley

Frank

Nothing is absolutley 100%  but Ive been reading lots of books on previous finds from the early days of mining ,so I hope that my study might get me close to where I might be successful . the only problem would be trying to get to the spot I think it might be pretty rugged country there .
