Any advise for the getting the Garrett Ace 250 to do anything but making noise over salt water or wet (salt) sand?

Okay will do.

Yes, I am excited. Have been researching for one year. Only got my detector last month.

Thanks for the great site.

So what did you find out? I have the same problems. I can hit a target on dry, but as soon as it gets wet then I get ghost signals and can never find anything. Maybe its just allergic to our "African sands"?

Here's what I suggest. Turn your machine off, after a few seconds off, hold it about 6 inches over the ground and turn it on again. Keep it steady until the power up sequence is finished. Try it after doing that. If it gets drifty again, repeat.

Thank you....
After reading through a very long and tedious thread I did find this advice..
My opinion... lovely little machine! Had it for 2 weeks and its very sensitive and pinpoints brilliantly if you know what you are doing. Will try the ground balancing/reboot method.

I'm sure you also found some folks that wouldn't even try this tip due to stubbornness. Their loss. It does work and I had a long conversation on the phone with a Garrett technician about it who actually never realized the machine he worked on was capable of adjusting itself to local conditions. He knows about it now.

Good luck. Enjoy your time with that amazingly good machine. Good bang for the buck, that one.
