I just read the book by Capt. Daniel Berg.  I found it vague and lacking in any real information.  If you are tempted to buy it I wouldn't waste your money.  Put the funds in the kitty toward some new gear...Bnthere

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

It is titled "Beach and Water Treasure hunting with Metal Detectors".  Great title but unlike my sourdough bread it has no substance.  I have learned much more on this forum.  The book doesn't add anything to the curve and I am disappointed.  It is only 15 bucks so it's not like I was expecting Greys Anatomy or anything...Bnthere

So true grigsbyshirly.  For example on page (oops the pages are not numbered) I learned that "earphones and coil can be stored inside a bag for easy transport."  Who knew?...Bnthere

I wish I saw this before I bought the book. Completely and utterly useless. Total waste of $15! This forum has been helpful, but it is lacking specifics. The books by Clive James Clynick are pretty good, but are tough to read as they get technical. They have been very helpful, especially since I have been trying to learn to use a PI machine, but nothing is better than just putting in time on the beach and really learning your detector.

Most of the time, an answer can't be too specific because we're not there standing beside you to aid or advise you. We can only guess the specifics of a question and give a close-to-best-fit-answer to it. For example, we get this question at least twice a week. It starts like this.

"What is the best . . ."

The person could be asking about metal detectors, digging tools, sand scoops or any number of things, including books. The specific answer being given might match 2 out of 20 readers or it might miss entirely and still be a correct answer. Forums are two dimensional. You can't always tell when someone there is being funny rather than serious, angry rather than happy. It's the nature of the beast. Just take what you can and let the rest stay behind for the next reader.
