Go Up Go Down

I started detecting in late 2002 and joined 2 clubs for land detecting They are called The Three Counties M.D.C. and the Weekend Wanderers both based in the low midlands.
I started detecting the beaches in 2005 but only really became successful from 2006 when i met a friend called Joe, thats when i started finding rings and a lot more cash though not as much as last year.
My best finds off land are these , a Cantii tribe Quarter Stater 30 +- BC , a Henry 111 shortcross penny , a Scottish Alexandra 111 second issue penny , a Lucius Veros Roman Denarius 168 AD , a Henry V1 Groat (four pence) , i have had a number of other coins but not as good as the ones here.
My oldest coin is a Republican Roman Denarius from about 150 + BC but its not in good condition.
Here is my best coin,
Quarter Stater,

I cannot seem to put all the photos on here all at once so will do it later bit by bit when i can.

Go Up Go Down

We had low tides due to the closeness of the moon last week. So I got into the water again wearing hip boots. Water is 38 degrees so a bit cold so i had to wear insulated rubber gloves. It was worth it, sand bars had moved this winter and found items in areas that i couldn't find before. Got a 1895 dated soda or beer bottle, ladies thin gold ring which looks 18 or 20 carat, 1867 shield nickel, 1901 indian cent and some bullets. Only had about 1/2 hour to hunt as the tide changes fairly fast and i was about 600 feet off shoreline. Was worth it and can't wait for the next low tides in April.

Nice coin finds on the photos above.

The quarter stater is anything between ?500 to ?2000 + , it is one of only 7 known of that design.
The Lucius Veros denarius is about ?70 maybe , it is also rare and a good one.
The (Joe's) Republican denarius is about ?50+
The Henry 111 penny about ?125 which someone offered but i dont want to sell.
The Alexandra 111 penny is around ?100 .
The Henry V1 groat is around the same.
The siliqua is unclipped but cracked so maybe only ?25.

Because of fuel costs and other financial issues , i will be cutting back on land club digs and concentrating on my own land if i can find enough and the beaches.
Fuel costs here ?1.31p per litre  Angry

Nice work. I see you have different detectors, which are you using on the beach? How do you like the X.P. Deus? Being the beach is rocked in, doesn't that mean you are down to the original bottom? When the new sand covers it, it I would think only newer stuff will be found. I would keep hitting it hard for the older stuff, and I would get a detector that I could get out in the water with (at least up to a couple feet deep) to find the stuff out there.

The machines i use on the beach are the Minelab's and for this year due to wanting to make the E.Trac last as long as possible before replacement , it will be the X.Terra this year.
The Deus is a harder machine i think but thats just me being hard wired to Minelab's LOL
I use that machine on land dig's.

The Brighton beach has sand below low water line but then its all stones and pea shingle above that, there is very little that can be got to below low water mark and all the stuff is in the shingle but deep and the depth of that is very deep at the moment due to the waves and wind blowing from the wrong direction. At the moment the shingle at low tide is 5 Feet to deep all the way up to the high water mark.
Roll on the better weather the crowds will lose plenty in the shingle and my X.Terra will find lots, the only problem with the X.Terra is the tones are a little less clear and only 1 set of numbers makes it more difficult to distinguish between good and bad targets but i want to leave the ET in reserve for now.
