DW , your right it is a great subject and a continuing thread , without an answer, I find it hard to believe after all this time there is still no direct answer to your question. and I believe u started this thread in 2009, and one would figure by now, an answer would have been had ! Maybe it's finally time to consult the Chinese consulate.  Even I would like to know the answer to this riddle.   Wink

I guess people just dont visit China from the USA, you think someone would have spotted a guy on the beach with a metal detector at some point in time over the years.....DW

This is the closest thing I found, but it is about Vietnam. Notice the mention of the numbers of people on the beaches every day, and how they were crowding all around the detector. I imagine it would probably be about the same, except for the laws, whatever they may be.
