Go Up Go Down

Well even scrap has a price on its head! I often detect on a beach in Flintshire, North East Wales, UK., but have never uncovered any treasure or very old coins. Most detectorists avoid this beach because it is littered with both modern and WW2 scrap. The area was used as a firing range by the RAF and USAF during WW2 and there are thousands of bullet projectiles all over the place.

I got to thinking that......if I could be patient and work past the scrap; maybe I could then find more ancient items. Well, last weekend I found a George III halfpenny and also paid a vist to my local, friendly, scrap dealer and weighed in 19kg of .303 and .30 projectiles. When that guy put £45.60 in my hand, I was well pleased.  Shocked

I suppose the moral of my story is..........if at first you don't succeed, try try again. Also, the manner in which the projectiles have migrated in and over the beach as helped me to learn more about the nature of the shifting sands.   Smiley

Like Mercury, Lead has a bad name.

In the right hands it's Cha Ching!

Did he give you lead plus the Brass price?

The nice man gave me brass price for the mix of lead, antimony, copper, and stainless. Wouldn't even look at them until I could convince him that none of them were live! Having worked past the scrap; I am starting to find older objects. Even copper ships nails!

Deming New Mexico.   30 miles from the Mexican border.

To get the good prices, I take it to El Paso when I have a reason to go.

100 miles from here.

Aaah, to me, home is where I hang my hat.  Smiley  Karamusel in Turkey is a nice little place to stay. As was Izmit, Berlin, Belfast and Boston.  Wink
