Go Up Go Down

I live on Cape Cod and the last 9 months have been doing a lot of dry sand hunting. I'd like to start doing some shallow water hunting in the spring. I don't want to spend too much on a new underwater detector, cause I'm not sure if I'm going to enjoy it. The AT Pro is just the right price. Anybody out there have any comments on how good it is in salt water compared to the higher priced detectors.    thanks   Dave

I should wait to the hype has calmed down then if you still want one you will be able to pick it up cheap.

There's some clever touches such as the way the controls are waterproofed but though they have done well with the Pro mode to get it working in salt water you still need pulse or multifrequency for depth in the salt.
Then there's the coil which needs looking at. Its been suggested that the faraday shield is of the painted on variety and not that good. If so it needs looking at again.

I don't quite see where the market is going to be. The Whites Classic in the Surf P.I. case and the Turtle (Tesoro Silver Sabre in waterproof box) both also single frequency didn't do to well in the beach hunting market. First couple of AT's that have been sold on in Britain both gave the excuse that the owners could not read the meter...it is on the small size.

Price over here is a third higher than I can import it at (including internation postage) so its unlikely to be a big seller. Could be another Teknetics T2. I had two replaced before I got the 6.0 version which I like but would rather have the 6.5.

As much as I appreciate a good review, this one is not. The reviewer never laid a hand on one and is relying on what other people say or write. You should not base your decision solely on that kind of review. If you do, you risk the chance of reading anyone's comments who simply doesn't like a company. A user with sour grapes can steer you away from a fine machine if you let them.

Go out and try one at your local detector shop. Read the rave reviews by the members here who actually have one of those machines. You do a grave disservice to both Garrett and yourself if you don't.

I just haven't seen any reviews on the AT pro and how it does in salt water. There's a video on it, but it's made by Garrett. I read it's great on land and that's fine, but I'm not using it on land. I just want to get a few reviews from people who have used it in salt water.

Then you haven't looked hard enough. Use the search block at the top of this forum. Search Entire Forum and see what you come up with. Then do a Google search on the same topic and see how many videos and reviews there are. Hundreds.

there's no hundreds of videos and reviews about the AT pro on salt water beaches. The video I saw on the subject was put out by Garrett. I thought this site was to ask questions and share info. Sorry

That link I put there had 13,000 hits. That, my friend IS sharing information. What did you expect? Did you want someone to go out and make a video just for you?

Here's another really white-hot suggestion for you. Contact Garrett and ask them. They'll give you a straight answer.
