I think that what you are looking for when you say "the coin line" is that place where the actions of the tides cause all of the coins to be moved too.
The way to see if your beach has a coin line is to zig zag, (VVVVVV), up and down the beach from the high water line down to the sea, after you have done the bit of beach that interests you, look back to see if you have a line of "filled in" holes, -- if you have, and they are near enough in a straight line, then that's your coin line and you can go back along it to collect the rest of the goodies.
Fine in theory, but I'm not really sure it'll actually work

What bulldog said is about right but a good starting place is about 10yards below high tide and zig zag back and forward there and one coin does generally lead to more.

Hi bulldog tried your coin-line theory and it works a treat. Found ?9.53 in spendable coins and one 9ct gold ring also one 9ct gold cross from knecklace alas did'nt find the knecklace that it came from but hey you cant have it all. Some of the coins were just lying on the surface.

With the tide at full low, walk down from the high tide line until you can turn around and guess that the high tide line would be at mid-chest. From this level now judge where you think the highest traffic was located on the beach above the high tide line. Now work you way up and down the beach parallel to the water edge and progress upward as the tide forces you in. The closer you are to the actual tidal line the better your detector will punch thru the wet sands. But you also have to dig fast sometimes to get to your target before the sands over whelm you.

Nice finds, Malc!  Well done!   Clapp

Markg - I've always thought of the "coin line" as being where the beach chairs and blankets go, which for my area is from the high water line, extending about 10 yards up toward the dry dunes.  There are often secondary pockets of coins laying in little furrows in the water (the "gulleys" findsoldstuff mentioned) and extending out into neck-deep water.  I like to look for areas where pebbles collect in or near the water. Idea

Well  what   i  do  is  when  i  go  to  the  beach  at  low  tide  is   i  run  an   imaginary  line   down  the   the  middle  of  the  high  tide  mark   and  the  low  tide  mark,  and  i  zig  zag   that  line  and  most  of  the  time  you  can  find   the  coin   line, and  once  you  find   some  coins  what  i  do   is  run  a  circle   about    five   circles   out,   sometimes   you  run   into   rings   or   some  other   jewelry  or  some  more  coins,  maybe  that  will  help  ya.  Harold in Fla.
