Firstly, not much to say yet. Wearing my city Granny Hat. After April I will have my Grey Nomad hat.Looking for a light detector (cannot manage the weight of the 4500 for long). Need it for WA Aust. conditions (different to USA). Any suggestions? (among other things, waiting for the roads to improve after the big wet everywhere).Don't like bogging.

Welcome from the Perth side of the state.

I'd recommend a Minelab Musketeer Advantage. Light, and fabulous on WA soils. Just around $750.00 or so.

Are you near Perth?

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Thankyou for the advice. The X-Terra 705 has also been suggested. The Musketeer is not shown in the catalogue I picked up.
We come from the east, so start at Kal. and head towards Laverton/Leonora or up Leinster way.
Also just bought latest Gold Gem and Treasure. The article about unsavoury types is quite alarming. We travel alone most of the time and don't see people for days.

Minelab is rumored to be discontinuing the Musketeer. They have a couple left in the Prospector's Patch near Perth. I saw them last week.

Ring them and ask because they don't list it in their on line catalog. On the flip side, if you can afford the Sovereign, it's a Musketeer with souped up features. At twice the cost, it may not be in your budget and the Musketeer is just as good and a bit lighter.
The Cash Converters (a pawn shop for those who don't live in Oz) near me has a Minelab Eldorado Mk II just like the one I use for around $300.00. A bit high, if you ask me. If I were buying it, I'd offer $100.00 and stay firm.

If your after gold then the 705 will be the best choice, but if you are general detector then do what GD said that musky
is very grossly underated it is way better than people think

The Musketeer is a scaled-up, feature-added Eldorado like mine but in a blue case rather than a yellow one. The Eldorado has zero discrimination - just like I like it. The Musky has a full range of analog settings to enhance your detecting pleasure. As AU said, it is grossly underrated.

I think that if the sovereign had the recovery speed of the musky it would be the ultimate detector and if money was'nt a problem
I'd still buy the musky i've owned them both and the musky is still a giant killer, in my view
