Go Up Go Down

I have been doing a little MDing here in Okinawa for about 8 or 9 months.  Basically been hitting the beaches.  Haven't done too bad, haven't found gold yet but got a couple of junk rings, and some silver and got a Tungsten about two weeks ago.

I am actually looking to do something other than the beaches, I would like to hit up a couple of caves or maybe something else.

If anyone knows of something other than beaches to hit up let me know and maybe we can check it out.

Technically anything a person finds is supposed to be given to the police and if no one comes in to claim it in 2 months then it is yours.

As for digging somewhere other than the beach almost all of the land is owned by somebody especially here in Okinawa.  Depending on where the caves are located would depend on if you would have to get permission.

Digging on base is strictly prohibited.

Other than reading threads on here I have not seen any other MDers here and haven't seen any Japanese doing it.

Go Up Go Down

I was in the Navy but just retired in May and waiting for my new job to start in Sept.

You are correct there are alot of beaches and I have hit quite a few.  I am not really to hot on digging down south of the island where most of the action was.  I used to live on base and I dug up a 30.06 live bullet from 43 in my back yard.  That was an interesting dig.lol

Thanks for your reply!

I met a guy there who lives near the pineapple farm up north. He tried to get me going cave hunting, there's some caves on his property. He thinks there might be gold or relics there. I know some guys who did caves and they said it was dangerous. You might be able to find him thru Okinawa bookoo. That's how he found me. I had some lost rings on there to find the owners. He wanted me to find his grandmothers ring he had lost while cutting grass. I did not find the ring, maybe he just wanted to have someone over for a cave hunt. I was not willing. Watch out for haboo. Later, John

Hey there Japan Hunter. I live on Kadena and went to the Security Forces desk and asked about digging on Kadena and they said they didn't know of anything prohibiting digging on base but they told me to check with legal. I checked with them and they told me there was no laws prohibiting it as well. They did recommend that if I found something of historical value that I should report it to the base historian. Hope that helps.
