As a matter of fact, I have, but not for the trout. Maybe some steelhead salmon? Streams tend to change course over time and when I find an old military encampment from Revolutionary War days, I hunt the entire area, including the stream wherever it is shallow or shows signs of meandering. Haven't really found much there but occasionally an old musket ball or other bullet finds its way into a creek or brook. I did find a dog training collar once in a stream. Still worked, too. Ouch! There was a test button on it and, stupid me, I pressed it.

Something to keep your eye open for on some streams.  I once was walking along a nature trail that followed a small mountain stream, and behold, as I crossed a bridge I gazed into the water and spotted a glint.  Climbing down the bank and into the water I came to find a small trove of coins thrown from the bridge.  Seems some people can't resist making a wish and tossing coins for good luck, and it was mine because I make numerous trips to this trail and others each summer and never fail to make some interesting finds.

Personally, if I'm going to hunt trout streams, I want a detector like the Garrett AT Pro or a Tesoro Tiger Shark --- something that isn't going to freak out on me when I slip and fall into the water (as long as I don't land on and crack the housing).   But yeah, they're great places to hunt.

Climbing down the bank and into the water I came to find a small trove of coins thrown from the bridge.

I found a handful of wedding bands and a few engagement rings mixed with hundreds of coins under a bridge in Georgia. Water was SO murky brown but shallow enough that I could stand with my detector and scoop.
