Everyone who has used this MD knows that it is a little difficult to pinpoint targets.  I use a couple of techniques to get the job done.

I would like to know what others are doing?

Slowing your sweep slows the ringing making it easier to pinpoint.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

I find success with the "Hover" technique.  You come across a buried pull-tab and you raise the coil until you can just hear it.  The idea is that you will be over the target and just hear it.

Raising the coil is good.   Using the edge of the coil works too.

I don't find the "edge" technique works all that well with the bigger coil...especially if there is some depth to the item being detected
