The MXT does ok...in the wet sand...but falses a lot. Anyway thats what my machine does with my settings. But is shines every where else.
Its not meant for that...but with some patience you can get some good results in the wet.

Poisedon, the 250 is a great general purpose machine but not so hot in salt water. I went to the beach yeaterday with my 250 and here is the result.

I've been beach hunting with the ace 250 several times and I've found that when you turn the sensitivity down you miss targets you wouldn't normally miss on dry land at the same sensitivity setting. Even though you may do a burial test where the object is easily detected at 2 or 3 inches once the machine has found it, In actual practice the coil will pass right over targets and give only a slight blip or no response. I think the computer in it gets confused and this prevents it from responding. I did a test where I threw out a hand full of zinc pennies in the surf to see how many I could recover. I recovered about half and did this only by repeatedly scrubbing the coil in the sand over the area where the pennies were.

Agreed, tried using the Ace250 in the salt water. What  a waste of time. Worked very well on the dry sand though. Will have to get another detector for the beach.

Hey guys, Understood about the Ace250 on the dry sand & wet sand & I guess I would agree, but there are a couple Youtube videos that show a couple minor adjustments to the normal settings and the Ace250 works out well in the wet sand for him in his area of Va Beach beaches I think.

Here's a You-Tube video link that just might help explain what I'm trying to say about the Ace250, not that I have one as I do not, but purely from what I've seen & heard of it here & there:

As for the OP question, well I can say that the Fisher CZ & X series seem to work well on the beach and in the wet sand. If your careful, even in the shallow surf out a foot or so, but protect the box from getting wet.

I have used the Fisher 1266X at the beaches of North Carolina & Daytona Beach, Fl and it seemed to work well, but as with any machine, you need to tweak settings and sens from the dry sand to the wet and then into the surf. If possible, check and re ground balance with in those 3 types of beach hunting. This Fisher happens to have what seems like a constant variable automatic ground balance, kind of like the whites ground tracking system on many of there machines.
 Smiley
The same goes for my Fisher CZ70 Pro, that machine works awesome on the beach dry sand/wet sand & light surf...
 Great
My Fisher 1280x even works very well on the Atlantic coastal beaches, dry/wet & surf which is a good thing, as these are known to excel in fresh water more so than the salt water, but every now & then a few machines don't seem to be affected by the salt. I'm thankful the one I have seems to be very stable in the wet salt & surf.

Just my observations with my vintage machines, your results may vary of course.

Cheers-

Hi Poseidon

Thanks for the great reply. Have donwloaded the vid and will test when I go to the sea again.

Will stay with this MD, its my first one, and hope to find something that is worth much to motivate upgrading to a better metal detector if necessary.

Be well

I'm glad I was able to help you and any other Ace250 users just a bit, as I remembered the video of uncleJohns Ace250 beach & surf setups & wanted to let you know about it. Hopefully these same setting tweaks will work well for you and the beach you hunt.

Cheers,
 Great
