My machine is a Maplins 3010/GC-1010 or bounty hunter clone according to a reference review on it. Here is a link to the instruction manual so u can reference against your chart as the numbering doesn't make sense to me according to my read out, if you don't mind taking a look that is. Don't want to assume anything here. I am just a beginner and have been detecting for less than 3 days and I figure the only way to learn is by practise and asking more experienced detectorist. Thanks again, Z.

I dont know what to tell you, except stay out of saltwater with it. I'm not going to try to figure out whats wrong with that thing you got. Everyone I know thats had the china 'bargain detectors", either bought a decent used detector (for $50-$150) or bought a good american made one after trying the china "bargains". Sorry, dont know anything about them and no desire to learn about them. I'm sure others here can tell you their experiences with China detectors.

It's a 3010/MC-1010 bounty hunter clone.

The only Bounty Hunter that works well in wet salt sand is the Quick Draw the others will work with reduce sensitivity but really not worth the time. That being said just how well do you think a cheap China clone is going to work?  Over the last year or two some of the clones are working as well or close to the originals but with no warranty or access to parts what are you going to do when it breaks down?

Well, the bug has started to take hold and as soon as I can afford too, and other priorities don't get in the way, I will buy a good detector, till then, this will just have to do. As it hasn't cost me anything, I can't complain about the quality or lack there of, of the machine. Smiley Z.

First off, I'm a desert boy, so you can take this with a grain of salt....it's just a tip I have picked up from more than one beach rat.  In addition to all of the other tips these folks have given you, try searching perpendicular to the water line rather than parallel to it.   That way your detector swings in parallel with the natural lines of deposit  rather than across multiple lines, keeping the mineralization for each sweep of your coil a bit more constant.

Beach sands tend to be highly mineralized and will mess with your sensitivity.  So yeah, what these guys have been saying!   Detecting

Look at me as a Land Locked Pirate.

I've lived in Florida, Turkey and Greece.  Learned to Swim in the Med at Age 5!  LOL  So salty it's hard to sink.

Lots of Beach stuff behind me.
