It used to come in both PI and VLF/TR models in days gone by. Not sure about now.

I like my Tesoro Sand Shark. Great machine.

i used to use an eninger exex 420 pbd (dynamic) metal detector hunting for landmines in afghanistan, i loved it. loved the way i could narrow down the search area to such perfection that i could determine which way a small nail was pointing when hidden under a garage door.

is this detetctor dynamic? i read it was only giving "beeps", and not the changing static sound?

anyway, i want to find submerged big stuff, not bottle caps, so probably i will not need surgical perfection Wink

If you are looking for big stuff you don't need a hand held detector, there are faster and more efficient ways to search a large area under water and it dose not need to cost you an arm and a leg.

It’s a PI.and its only beeps. Look at kellyco's web site all info its there.
It will find big or small stuff i offend find parts of fishing hooks.
Look at my posts on today's finds. The sea hunter is the detector i use.

thank you.

i was thinking of having a handheld to search around wrecks, but the plan was to look for bigger stuff than "just" rings and nails. that is why i like the dynamic ones that would give a stronger sound the bigger and closer find.

i find it irritating that a car and a bottle cap would give the same signal.

but for less than 1k i guess it is limited what i could expect.

That's not exactly true. Your skills can help determine size and location. A bottle cap and a car do sound the same if you stop as soon as you hear the beat. If you continue to pattern search, you will come to the edge of the bottle cap much sooner than the edge of the car. Logic. Thus, when I find a target underwater I begin what I call a figure 8 pattern. I start by making an X over the target in ever increasing sizes. If you stare at the coil and watch the pattern as the sound comes into your headphones, you can actually begin "painting" an image of your target in your mind as the coil crosses over the edge of your target. In most cases, I can simply use a digging tool to unearth my target. Worst case, I use my scoop but the target is almost always right in the first scoop unless it's deep.

I have both the Garrett Sea Hunter PI and the Tesoro Tiger Shark. As has been noted, you don't need a short handle but the Sea Hunter comes with one. The Tiger Shark can be adapted to one easily. I've had my Sea Hunter for more than 30 years and it has done me wonderful service. My Tiger Shark is fast replacing it as my underwater machine of choice.

i know about the painting of the object, but i just like the static sound to indicate size under ground. the stronger sound, the bigger target.
i do not know how to explain this proper, but the ebinger gave a nice static sound who would get louder when you had a bigger concentration of signature.
lets say you had one ring in one place, and a stack of three on top of each other another place. does the cheap detectors signal difference there?
