Hi Jim, I bought the waterproof connectors from McMaster-Carr, not cheap. But they are 5 pin and smaller than bulkhead Bulgins. I wouldn't advise anyone to do this conversion as it is very tricky on the wiring changes to the connectors. If you mess them up, you could damage the Sovereign components. As for the coinsearch coil on your Sov., it isn't any good in the water, (floats and I don't think it is waterproof) you should get the old 7" horseshoe coil or better yet, the newer 10x12" sef coil. I use one of those now and it works nice, is light, and goes thru the water easily. If you use the Sovereign just to walk in the calmer waters with no waves if you hip or chest mount it, and and as long as you don't fall over and you keep it out of water, it will work fine. I often use my GT Sov. with a hip mount bag, I tie a cord around my neck to the top of the coil shaft so I don't drop it when I rest it on my side when I am scooping. Normally you wouldn't need this, but I use a meter on my shaft and it isn't waterproof. You could use the Fisher but I find you should try to stay with mainly one type of detector in the water and on the beach, so you really get to know its workings well. I have only been out a few times this year, but I am only hunting real low tides, and in the main area I'm huntin finds are old coins, but so far mostly in poor condition. I have another water area I hunt sometimes and have pulled a 14K band out and lots of modern change. I'll be out in the next week or so, when the real low tides come back.
Good huntin all, John

Good so far this year.  Got the Infinium this year too.  Dont think the sea hunter is going to see much action this season unless I go with a two person search

Got any good digs this early in the season?
Jim

Hi John,
Thanks for that & yes I agree. I wont be doing any mods to the Sov XS.

I've got to learn this machine, so yes I'll be upgrading the coil at most to one you mentioned, or the spider DD slimline Minelab sov modern coils.

Cheers,  Great
Jim

I been out a couple times this week due to the full moon tides being pretty low. Last 2 days were good with no wind and calm water in the mornings. Been doing a good area and came up with $3.60 in change the first day and $3.80 in change the second day, plus loads of sinkers. Best part is the 2 14k bands I got today. The salt water is sure killing most of the modern pennies though. After being in the water for about 7 months or more, they come out as just contorted blobs. I was using the Sovereign GT with a 8" coil, these last 2 days. Will try to hit it again tomorrow for another 1-2 hours.

What's the best detector for underwater searching, like in creeks and streams.  Upstate, SC/

Hi Odiebackthen,

Hey check out this water hunting forum & you'll see all kinds of suggestions.

I think that your looking to hunt fresh water streams and things like that, well you could go for semi vintage detectors or used or new, but one good quality machine would be a Fisher 1280X aquanaut, its an easy to use sensitive VLF machine that works well in fresh water or on salt water beaches.

You also have the whites Surf master's and alike both in VLF and Pulse induction, with the VLF used units being a good deal and are of high quality & will work well for you.

You also have the Tesoro Tiger & Sand shark models that are of great quality and work very well.

Yes there's more brands and models, but I tried to give you sort of reasonably priced machines in the used market to research & I'm sure the other guys will also make some recommendations to you.

Cheers & good luck,  Great
Jim
