Anybody hear the theory of hunting lions in the desert, with such a scoop?

It should work on beaches, just as well.

Dont mind me, Ive been sitting here since 7 this morning and its now 2:30.... maybe Im punch-drunk?

Brian AKA goldigger (still got lots of forum to get through)

The only real danger in buying a beach scoop is wasting your good money on a poorly built scoop for your requirements. The northeast need stainless steel with a point on the basket tip for cutting in to the rough packed areas. Where as Florida needs a wider scraping basket which is better in soft sand. I have no idea about the west coast, sorry.

If you're hunting in fresh water, the magnet in the scoop is a great thing to do. Bobby pins and small nails will last many, many years in fresh water and will not corrode or rust away like they do in salt water. The magnet will catch a lot of the smaller ferrous items and save you from digging them over and over as they fall through your scoop's holes. The magnet will also teach you a little bit about the area you are hunting in. After you're through hunting for the day, check out the amount of black sand that has accumulated on your scoop's magnet. I was quite surprised to see how much of it was in an area that I thought didn't have any!

Made my own sand scoop out of junk I had laying around.. some galvanized sheet metal, screws, construction adhesive, and an old steel broom handle. Works great. Cost me 6 hours of my time.

Nice job Paul! There's a satisfaction that comes with making stuff yourself and having it turn out as well as yours has......
