give 'er a try. It may not be ideal, but it can probably be done. If it s noisy on the wet sand or in the water, i think you could try decreasing sensitivity, or increasing discrimination, or notching different spots (for instance notching out nickels on an ace 250 can quiet it right down).
Sometimes getting past the zone where the surf hits the shore may help.
my Eagle Spectrum. which has Automatic ground tracking seems to work very quiet in the salt water without reducing sensitivity - well, i've tried it all of two times, both days there was very little surf and it worked fine and seemed to see down deep. The ground tracking rate can be adjusted on these machines, as can the self adjusting threshold.
