Oh good, that he is still going. I didn't know he was removed. I am sure there was must have been someone out there    doing water hunting before me too I just think I wrote the first article on it. Maybe Alan wrote the first book on it. It's all not that important anyway, as long as we all had some fun and success at it, and I still am having fun and success doing it at 68 years old. Thanks.

You mentioned writing a few articles... where would one find these articles?

Just one, I didn't figure it was worth the time put in for the money they paid, so I never wrote anymore. It was called Ring Hunting, July 1975 Treasure World magazine. No big deal, but I believe it was the first article that told people to hunt in the water with a regular land detector. I got a whole $17 for it. I always thought I would get back to writing, but too many other things in life get in the way.

All ways like to read other peoples opinions on how to go about detecting and what to look for on the beech or inland

All the best

Why not write some of your stories here because your reply to me has sparked great interest and I believe you
have something worth reading,

I have tried to put it on a few times, but I can't get it to go on due to size problems, I tried to size it down, but it just won't go, and it is only one page. If you want it, email me and I can send it as an attachment. As I said, it is a basic article which I wrote as I had hunted in Conn. in the late 1960s and in Mass. in the early 1970s and never saw anyone else in the water back then.  treasureman@snet.net

JCP,

Two things come to  mind here. One is that there is no such size limit in the Downloads area so you can post your entire article there in the appropriate area. The second is that there is software there, available free, to reduce image sizes to allow you to post them here. Your limits on attachments are 500k per item or 1mbyte total per post. Some people split them between successive posts to stay within those limits.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

you can get it posted. Also those other older articles you mentioned. (As GD mentioned, the pics could be too large to post here and would come up fine in the downloads section)

Anyway your able to post this information up, it seems to me that you have more than enough ample experience & solid advice to offer anyone interested in this topic, and I for one am very interested!

(I hunted for maybe 150+ hours in the late 70's & early 80's on the beaches of N.C. which wasn't a great deal of time spent over those few years with an older Whites Analog 2 or 4 GB I think it was called TR/VLF, just the old blue metal box with an analog numbered meter which didn't do great and didn't do too bad either, but todays machines and great advice from the old time beach hunters is greatly appreciated information IMO, and now I'm back into the hobby again with a few periods in between the layoffs of Thunting time, so I'm eager to read any solid information out there.)

Cheers,  Great
Jim

I put it in the 'documents' section under 'shipwrecks and underwater' it is titled 'Ring Hunting'. I tried to download it but I get file not found, maybe it was too soon. Thanks and let me know if it works. I also have posted about the sifter I made in the 'Making your own equipment' topic.
By the way, I hate the mean look on the avatar I have, I am not mean spirited, I just like the color. Purple is my favorite color. Smiley
