Go Up Go Down

Hi Everyone,Last Saturday Andy phoned to go detecting in the water i declined and said i was going on a photo shoot instead.
Decided to surprise Andy with a few photo's of him detecting  the water but when i got to the beach i was surprised to see another 3 of my friends also detecting there.
As you can see they have all copied my Dads idea of the swivel bucketed scoop...
Silki the Aluminum will last you for years i have mine now for over 10 years with no sign of wearing just make sure its 1/8 or more thickness...

A motley but happy looking crew, mate! I see you're an early riser like me!

I prefer to beach hunt in the early morning darkness. The kids are back to school on Wednesday. It looks like it's time to see what they deposited in the "sand bank."

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Simon the Excalibur is a great detector but badly balanced, you will find after a few hrs detecting with it your arm will just about fall off.
Yes you will find most people who have one will either have it waist mounted or use a straight shaft. I started of having it hip mounted but found it stretched the cable and had to put it in for repairs a few times until i noticed that people were using the straight shaft.
I bought the Babbs straight shaft and it was like using a different detector,a pleasure to use i could swing it all day without any arm fatigue.

                                            Cheers Raoul

Hi Raoul ! Thanx for quick answer ! I could feel already that comparing to my Whites DFX , Excalibur feels bit heavy ! Any chances that you could post some photos of that straight shaft ? Here , in South Africa we are a bit isolated from newest things and even buying from  the  Ebay is a problem as most of the sellers do not ship out of US of A ! Cheers from Africa , Simon !

Nice photos, and thanks for the info on the straight shaft. I've been considering that myself and it is nice to get that feedback (and link).

I gather you are a photographer. Nice job on using the talent to gift your dad...

Can't wait to go back to the beach again. It's very cold still. So I have time to make another straight shaft for my Excal, seems mine is just a little too short, maybe 1 or 2 inches longer would be perfect.

Hi Raoul ! You were right ! I just came back from the weekend on the beach , can hardly lift my arm ! Looks like Excalibur is really badly balanced ! After few hours I had to changed for my Whites DFX - what a difference ! I will try to make some plan about that straight shaft ! Regards , Simon.
