subject says it all, we have a popular fishing site with shallow water that
many people lose lures into. I'm building the BFO detector at

Dunno how to do it properly, but I know my cousin has found dozens of lures
with only bare sight from that place. Maybe I need a pinpointer too. Anyway, I set the regulated battery and electronics floating
and build the search coil waterproof. The I need a diving face mask, dunno what else. Once I get a signal,
I have to go and check it underwater. Maybe I need underwater light also, wonder if Mag-lite is waterproof ?
Any ideas ? The depth is only max 1,5 meters, but the water is quite dark.

use a powerful large magnet and a strong rope --- drag it thru the area --the metal hooks and metal bodies of some lures  should draw it to the magnet  Wink

Firstly, I don't have a strong magnet, secondly, the lures are there because they're stuck into rocks or wood.

Otherwise people would not be losing those lures !  Undecided

First I have to find them. Then I have to detach them from whatever they're stuck into.

extra strong powerful large magnets will "pull" the lures loose from what there hung into ---police use this mothed to find pistols and guns thrown into lakes often by murders and robbers .

you think there's enough force to drag the whole system up ?

there are what is called --- 150 lb pull magnets --that can pick up a 150 lb item --they are that strong *--- the amount of "pull" they make is amazing .

I have snorkeled finding lures and weights before.

Ain't no Magnet No How No Way is going to pull a Bait that has be set in a old stump or log.

You have line tangled around every thing if it did not snap at the lure.

I have searched the beaches where they have pumped sand from out in the Gulf of Mexico to replenish them and I have found two hugh silver spoon lures.  They seem to be pretty old.  they are both about four inches long and neither of them had hooks on them.  You just never know what those pumps will throw up on the beach!  If your hunting those lures and your out in the water, I would recomend that you take a plastic container of some kind, like tupperware with a snap lid, to put them in because of the hooks and maybe some kind of flat metal rod to help push them out of whatever they are suck in.  If you use a wood rod or stick, the hooks might get stuck to wood.  Good luck with your hunt and be careful. Idea

Tes, my beaches here on on the Gulf of Mexico so I'm sure it was someone fishing long ago that lost their lure or was in the mouth of "The One That Got Away". Then time goes by, it falls to the bottom of the Gulf and then modern technology comes along with the financing of some rich beach-front property owners and the dredge digs it up and pumps it on the beach.  Pretty neat "life-of-a-lure".  Smiley
