Hello all,

Wondering if I can get some info from all of you who use chest waders. I've been looking online and there's so many bad reviews of so many different brands of insulated chest waders. Anyone have a preference of brand?

Thanks in advance  Undecided

Have you used waders before?

Get some that are Water Tight at the Belt line.

Consider using Neoprene Diving shoes, socks and bottom half of a good wet suit.

Waders have issues like, THEY CAN KILL YOU!

Think about this:

Your walking along in a stream and inadvertently step in a hole.  You fall.  Waders fill up with water and your now wearing a Boat Anchor.

The same is more likely to happen walking the surf line on the beach.   There just a single large wake or wave can swamp you and down you go.

Just something you needed to know.

Thanks for the heads up,

Yes I've read up on it, the areas I'd be hunting are mostly tidal flats. No boats allowed and I wasn't heading past waist deep anyway. Gonna get a wet suit next spring, and take some diving courses as well.

Well its usually two main types of waiders,  chest & thigh. Thigh is like extra long gumboots.

The secont thing to think about is the water temperature. I would think its very cold in the winter time
where you are planning on using them, so take that into consideration.
Homefire is correct with the killing thing. So think of safety plans if your going out deep.

I think a pair of thigh  waders could be good for a start. They are usually slightly cheeper
  Cool

Go Up Go Down

I live in the southern part of Ontario, Canada.Water hunting season is normally from late April to early November;the rest of the time, our lakes/rivers are icebound.
I used to use a wet suit for my cold water metal detecting, but now at my age(69) I find it very difficult to get into and out of a wet suit;and it's no pleasure getting out of them after getting out of the water, in a cold , windy parking lot of a beach, possibly even while it is snowing.Fellow Ontario water hunters will know what I am talking about.
Insulated/neoprene chest waders are the answer for me, boot foot, style.I've tried stocking foot, but prefer boot foot for ease of entry/exit time involved, also, not having to buy an extra set of footware(boots)
My current chest waders are in their 4 th season, and the only leakage started last year, in one boot, ahead of the ankle; a tube of "AQUASEAL"bought at a local dive shop stopped the leak 100%.
The waders, made by BONE DRY, cost around $159 on sale, at Bass Pro Shop
They keep me comfortable in ice-cold water for 2-3 hours; thats plenty long enough, 'cause by then my fingers are numb in my rubber shoulder-length gauntlets, and invariably, its time for a pit-stop !!!
Works for me.

Joe
