Garrett did in fact make both versions of the Sea Hunter.  VLF and PI.

Heavy, Bulky but good machines.

I have the PI type I play with on land.

The VLF type are far and few to be found.

Pulse induction has no bad habits in salt water while VLF needs a lot of tweaking as you move around.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Garrett has constantly updated these machines while keeping the model number the same. Mine is 30 years old and it outperforms the Excalibur II both on the beach and in the water.
