Get a Spade for Sod, Smack it with a Hammer until It Curls a little in the Blade.
Talking about the one that has a 4" tip here.
Cut off the Handle and put a T on it.

I'd suggest a large, heavy shank screwdriver with the blade rounded. You can use it as a pry bar when needed and should handle the rockiest bottoms. I've attached images of my favorite all around digging tool which has served me well for over 40 years now. That's how long it's been since I ground the tip smooth.

Well when I think of rocky bottoms I think of golf ball and up size rocks and that digger will not work. If its p-gravel the best thing is a rod like GD said move the gravel around the feel with your hand. I have tried a half dozen water tools over the last 10 years and have yet to find one that works in gravel or shell

The spade wasn't my idea and you may certainly ask for advice. When you receive it, you should acknowledge it at the very least. That scoop you chose won't be manageable in rocky beach no matter how strong it is. You need a probe and perhaps a ping pong paddle. You'll use that scoop, all right, but not on the rocky beaches.

I have a few lakes that i have found old coins and rings, i work in water as deep as my chest waders will allow,they only allow detecting certain times of the year, i use a round bill stainless scoop with holes in it. The rocks are not very large at all. They are swimming areas with gravel that is hard to dig in. Im trying not to carry and more digging tools other than my scoop, i guess a pry bar thats long enough to move rock would work but i still need my scoop to pull up the target specially if its to deep for me to bend over. I move rock with my round bill scoop but if it had a point i thought it may work better.Thanks for the advice Seldom...DW

I try to acknowledge answers on here asap, but due to my work in the winter months here i have limited time to be on the computer, and when the weather breaks im to busy detecting. I have been at this hobby since 1978 and working fresh water sites since then. Thanks for the Advice, topic closed!!!!!!!
