Works fine in freshwater but salt is a different matter. Expensive in Europe but the price has now started to drop. I thought the first I tested was a lemon but the second, though giving an inch more "depth" in air, was about the same on salt and land.

Another discriminating option is the Beach Hunter I.D. (waterproof cut down D.F.X.). Not the deepest in the world but not bad when "supertuned". Works most salt beaches and lakes/rivers.

Minelab excal II

I have used the White dual field and an excalibur II.  My opinion is that most people will find more good stuff more consistently with less digging with the excal.  I know they say the pi goes deeper and perhaps they're right but I find almost twice the gold with the excal as I did with the dual field.  The extra cost for a great machine will return itself in less than a year if you hunt even once a week so go get the best machine and a sunspot scoop and you'll never regret it.  You can sell the machine on ebay for 1/2 to 3/4ths what you paid for it after 1 year and try another if you want to!
