I saw a post made once that contended the bealle story was concocted by the confederates to cover up the real origins of the bounty, seized Union gold.  It mentioned John Yates Beall, a civil war spy. Am I Crazy?

I haven't found the post you mentioned in the THunting.com files.   However, John Yates Beall was a Confederate Privateer who was captured by the Yankees and executed as a spy in New York on February 24, 1865.

John Yates Beall was from jefferson co. in va, now wv.  I have some history on him and maybe even a connection between him and J.W. Booth.  I was just wondering if anyone had heard the confederate cover story theory.  Does any history of the treasure exsist before 1860?  Just curious
