Sorry it took so long to respond but I had to try and look it up in my archives.
All I know is that the writings I used to do this were by Thomas Jefferson and I had to pay online for the access to it.
Where it is now I have no clue.

[wise]Yes, Christian. There are others interested in the Beale treasure story. I have been researching the story for over 25 years. I have always believed the story and I have always believed that "Thomas Jefferson Beale" was the first born of President Thomas Jefferson and his slave mistress Sally Hemings. Mr. Daniel Cole apparently arrived at a solution which is set forth at the Beale Cipher solved site. The two pieces of paper shown there contain the numbers in the correct position; however they appear to be hand-written and have no resemblance to the numbers that appear on page 222 of Gold in The BlueRidge by P.B. Innis and Walter Dean Innis. The papers containing the numbers were given to them by a family who lived in the Roanoke area. The papers had been handed down in that family and always were believed to have been in the lock box containing the Beale codes. Another thing the latitude and longitude given on the Beale Cipher solved site appear to be off base from the narrative presented. Larry

Has anyone taken another approach to the Beale mystery? Having done a good deal research into Laffite, I found a number of parallels that might be interesting. First Laffite held Thomas Jefferson in the highest level of admiration as well as his document Declaration of Independence. Second he and one of his brothers traveled to the east coast many times often using the last name of Beale (or Beal). Third, look at the timelines. Laffite had just captured the spanish ship Santa Rosa and had a great deal of silver to dispose of and the US Navy was on the lookout for him. Fourth, shortly after the "Beale" was supposedly hidden, Laffite contracted for a powerful steamship to be built on the east coast, that required a great deal of cash. Lastly, Laffite was a member of the Masonic lodge in either Philidelipha or Baltimore. I don't remember which because it's been years since doing the research, LOL, oldsheimers, I guess.. Just a suggestion, look into Laffite's journal, it has been authenaticated by the Library of Congress. There is much more that can be uncovered like his petition to Congress for all his supplies at the battle of New Orleans and his purchase of Colt pistols used for testing gunpower at his St Louis factory.

Thank you for the interesting post. It is a subject I am a little weak on so all posts on this topic is interesting for me. There has been many theories on this subject, some quite interesting and clever. Although I have not been fortunate to have the time to verify many of the claims.

One question can you recall what year did Laffite capture the San Rosa?

The Santa Rosa was captured by a crew of Laffite in 1818 0r 1816 (in Madagorda Bay), depending on which story you believe. I may be old but trust me I wasn't there. LOLL

Hi, Richard and Hardluck. Here's another approach to the Beale codes. I have a book published this week, The Secret Mission of Thomas Jefferson Beale, in which I give a solution to Code 3. It is based on the use of the Miller's Tale in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. 30 travellers. Buford's Mill. I used the predominate sound from the last words in each line. I found a stream of narrative, with some map references tying to Code 1, and certain numbers fell out or were not in the literature. I took those numbers to the U.S. Census of 1810 and found the names of 29 men plus Beale. The book is divided into 3 parts: Part I, the Story with an Epilogue discussing contradictions, the Beale Papers and Beale; Part II, a Journal; and Part III, a detailed solution to Code 3 with a list of the men. There are Notes, Tables calculating the number of pots and mules used and a Time Line. There is a list of 63 maps and 99 works consulted. There are 40 photographs and drawings. In Chapter 5 of The Story, I give a solution to a subcode from Code 1 that links Thomas Jefferson and Sally Hemings. I have been researching this material for over 25 years and I will be glad to answer questions, if any. Larry
