I don't care what anyone else says but the used Fisher coinstrike is an amazing detector and works very well on the beach it ignores hot rocks and black sand just picks up the target and is a much better detector than the minelab, esp when you can buy a used one for around $250-$300 range, the minelabs are over rated I have owned a few and have never liked the way they work other people may feel differently, I noticed someone mentioned a Pioneer 505 it does work pretty well I have owned one for about 8 years without a problem and found a smashed cadillac hubcap at almost 3 feet deep in black sand in the all metal mode.....My Whites TDI picked it up but the batteries died so I borrowed the 505 from my grandson to find the target it picked it up in the all metal mode, actually I have found some pretty deep targets with the 505.

Sorry but I don't think Minelabs are "overrated" - You just have to know and learn how to use them.
Agree though.. the coinstrike is a real good machine.

I used my Eureka Gold on the Columbia river and it hit so many hot rocks it became unusable, but so did all of my VLF units, minelabs are over priced you can get better preformance for less money, my Fisher Gold$trike outpreforms my Eureka gold very easly it picks up smaller gold targets and deeper in the ground, it will also pickup targets that the Eureka or the exterra 70 do not even respond to, don't worry I know how to use a detector I have been repairing them for 25 years, the first unit I worked on was more sophitcated than anything you can buy today at $10,000 a industrial food service stationary detector, I was a field service technician and would travel around the U.S. repairing them and other sophisticated optical inspection equipment, minelab is still over rated  and ther service is not on par with Whites or Garrett!!

Minelab X-Terra 705

I know how you feel, I started off wanting just a MD to play around with and take out on the weekends after several days of "research" I find my wish list growing exponentially...I went from an ACE 250 to a Minelab E-Trac, completely out of my price range and probably out of my skill level right now but it's so darn sexy! What I will probably end up doing is buying a MD that will PAY FOR the Dream Machine! Looking at the ACE 350 and the Fisher F5 as well as the Minelab 505... OR I might just hit the casino (just kidding) Let me know what you decide and I will do the same, maybe with a little help from our friends we can booth figure it out!  Bang Head Beer Chug
