Go Up Go Down

Growing up in Tucson Az, We had friends that lived in the Boonies.

One of the son's use to take me out in the hills a fair walk from the home to what He Called the BAT caves.

Already a Rock hound, going into old mine shafts was so cool..

Later reading those old Rag Treasure magazines I found a NO NAME detector for sale for $50.00. Back in the 70's that was a pile of money.

Took two month of begging my mom to get it for me. The first 10 minutes of use in the front yard produced a 1953 silver Quarter.

I was DOOOOOOOMED , Doomed I tell Ya!

It was a BFO detector with a Whole 5 Transistors.

It was Called the Crusader!

They even Sent me a News Letter over the Next Year to add fuel to the Fire.

I had the Treasure World by the Short Hairs!

Being in the Military stationed in places that would land you in the clink just for having one, I've had a detector over the past 40 years.

When I could not use one like in Greece, I found out I could snorkel and find rings and chains dang near as good as having one.

Yep! If you Love your Kids, Do NOT I repeat, DO NOT introduce them to Treasure Hunting.

LOL

So true, homey, so true!

My first detector was also a Crusader!  I had to beg my wife to allow me to buy it...   she finally relented and I paid $50.00 for it in 1971 of 72.  We were young marrieds with two very young kids'  I was working full time at a mill and going to college full-time on the GI bill!  But I always managed to work in time to go metal detecting!  Like you, I was Doomed!  I also recieved The Association newsletter by Gene Ballinger.  In fact I ran across an old "Association" patch the other day that was sent with the Crusader!

Between all that and the old coins I was finding I was so hooked.  My kids never got the fever quite as bad as I did and they didn't get hooked.  Neither one of them or their kids are much interested in the hobby today.  So, I guess they missed the Curse!

Cool!  I actually still have mine!  It is stashed somewhere in my garage.  I should dig it out and post a picture of it on here.  I still actually works, but it drifts so bad it has to be adjusted about every 10 swings!  It was worth it back in the day, though.  Found a lot of coins and relics with it and it led me some great bottle finds!  It got me going in the treasure hunting hobby, that's for sure!   Detecting

LOL! Stable it was not!      Even walking from the shade to the sun made it want a tune.    Grin
