Hi:
Can BLM tell me where is it legal to use a metal detector without having to file a claim? Is it a good ideal to file a claim? I live north of Phoenix, AZ. Thank you.

You need to talk to Dusty Carl because he prospects so he might be able to point you in the right direction.

Have a look in our Prospector Section.     Bottom line is the BLM will not tell you but there are ways to find if the land is under claim or not.

It use to be easy to do your self but the BLM have taken actions to get in your way.

Have  look Here.    The Info is there but getting to it is a pain in the Rump.

Hi Nhopa. Welcome to the forum. Staking a claim is quite a task and a lot of hoops to jump through. I know because I have done it. However, there are two clubs you could join instead of staking a claim. There is the Roadrunners prospector club. They have over 200 claims in Arizona. Most in the Bradshaw Mtns and around Wickenburg. Also there is the Arizona Treasures Unlimited detectors club in Phoenix. I am a member of both. BitburgAggie_7377( one of the moderators on this forum) and I both belong to the Arizona Treasures Unlimited. They do not have claims, per se, but have club meetings with show & tell, contests, and organized hunts. They meet once a month. The Roadrunners meet once a month, have outings and events, contests, but you can goto any claim anytime. They supply you with topo maps and directions to get to a claim. Oh yeh, you get to keep all the gold you find for yourself. I can give you more details about both if you would like, just click on the name over my avatar for a link to PM me and I can fill you in.

A bad day at gold prospecting or metal detecting is better than a good day at work.
