Go Up Go Down

I just bought a BH Fortune Hunter and I must say, it is really different than a RS P.O.S.   Undecided . I had a MD back in the early 70's at my dads house and quickly gave up on MD'ing.
Recently I just got the idea to get another one (but not TOO expensive) and will go to the beach in the mornings after the crowds have all gone and comb the beach. This should pay fpor the device in a couple of years. Has anyone had any "recent" experience with this model /Lone Star? Also are there any good books out there about MDing?

J

Enjoy your newly rediscovered hobby. It'll keep you fit and get you outside now and again.

As to books, there are lots of free and low cost resources on the web. Right here, in the download area, are a few eBooks that I uploaded which are free when you have full membership. Next are two lnks for you to visit. Dan Hughes sponsors both of them.

On the second link, you can listen to Dan's web casts and subscribe to his podcasts. He also wrote a book on treasure hunting. It's available in eBook format. He's a regular here, too, so you can actually exchange ideas and communicate with him.

The second page is full of his thoughts on other resources. You can download any of his audio web casts and listen to them later after you save them to a CD or a thumb drive. Nice listening on the way to and from a site. Dan is a genuine treasure himself.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

I too have the lone star, (i bought it used for 65$) I find it to be very sensitive in all metal mode, but when I switch to disc or notch it seems to lose almost all its sensitivity. I was pondering it over and am thinking the pot that controls disc may be out of spec, but I have been too busy digging to bother opening it up to check. It does like big iron objects, i have dug up several pieces of iron pipe down 18" deep and it was able to follow my power line to the shop which is buried down 36" deep but that may be due to the em field put out by the electricity. My biggest gripe is that pinpointing is more of a 6" circle than a 2" one. all in all though it works darn well.
