First off this isnt my Idea I did some snooping on youtube and multiple people had videos of a "Coin Garden" This is how it works.

Step 1. Tie off about a 2ft x 6ft rectangle in the corner of your yard or garden.

Step 2. Dig one hole every 2ft  through the middle of the rectangle at 2inches deep 4in deep and 6in deep.

Step 3. place a penny, dime and quarter in the holes.

Step 4.Cover up the holes and use white spray paint and mark X's on the center of each holes.

Step 5. Use your Coin Garden!

This worked great for me when I got my Garrett Ace 250 helps you practice on pinpointing ,depth & using a hand held pinpointer. Depending on your metal detectors abilities you can change up the depths or items used!

Wow!  Your more dedicated then I am.  Too much work for this ol boy.

I just take note of what I find in the field because it's never the same.

Hard Ground.

Lye Grounds.

Salt Grounds.

Iron Mineral Grounds.

A test garden will tell you every thing you want if you only hunt in your yard, Eaaaaa?

I don't coin shoot that much so if your yard is like all the grounds you hunt you may have something there.

The lye they put on ball field effects the detector.

Salt on the dry sand the same.  LOL! Not that we have so many of those here in Deming New Mexico. But we did 20 million years ago so you still have to think about it.

I, myself and I just thinks it none productive for the hunting I do.

Some people use test gardens to get use to their machines "as I have" and some don"t.
If you don't mind a little planning and a little work then it's a great thing to have.
You may want to put in a few other metals into your garden also, nails, screws, pop tops, bottle caps, iron and so on.This will give you an idea of how your machine reacts to junk " or what I consider junk"  Grin As Homefire stated all the grounds that your detecting may not be the same as what's in your garden, so your machine at times will react differently in other soils. That's just how it goes.
I have had 5 machines in my time,3 of which I still have including my newest one from this year.I started my test garden in 2001with my second detector and ran them all through the garden just to test all the tones and pin pointing and I must say that it worked for me.

If you decide to make yourself a garden make a nice one and have fun.  Detecting

Thanks for the post Coinshooter I'm sure someone will find interest in this.... Great
