Have a question for you guys, never really detected outside of just dirt, but now ive got the itch and want to search the shoreline here. It's all rounded rocks really, is the metal detector going to work in this area going through rocks even? and tips? Thanks in advance!

Well, went there and found nothing but bottle tops/pull tabs. The waves really limited the area I could search along with some ice too. Moved inland to an old farm site, found a ceramic bell-telephone sign on the top of the ground, some pull tabs and then the sun started going down. On the way out I spotted a Geo-Cache, first time I have ever seen one too.

Jim, you need to treat your beach as if it were a gold prospecting site since a rocky creek bed is often similar in terrain. A crevicing tool to loosen the gravel, a rugged three fingered hand rake and a sturdy small shovel are all handy tools. Adding a small pry bar wouldn't do you any harm.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.
