Sorry mine - I didn't realized that you didn't know what one was, or had seen one. They are great for polishing rocks and come in different sizes. My daughter and wife helped to get a few small rocks together and polish them up. It took us about 4 weeks (one week of tumbling per cycle) to polish them, and they're almost complete. It's a very low-maintenance type of hobby. The end result is very nice though. I've included this link below on wikipedia, maybe it helps a little bit?

For simple people like me, I use a mason jar, eighth full with pea gravel, some clad coins, a spit full of vinegar, water and some salt.
Then cap it off and while kicking back watching T V Turn the jar back and fourth tumbling it all together for a bit!
I keep the silver clad away from the pennies, and don't use the same wash twice.
