I am going to Marathon Key,Fla next week. I am also a newbie. I have a waterproof sand shark on it's way. Any suggestions? Am I supposed to keep quiet about what I find? How does it work? Thanks! Smiley Libby

Hi Libby.   Welcome to THunting.com.   You might want to stop by the New User's Introductions board and introduce yourself so people can say howdy to you.

Have you read the instruction manual for your sand shark yet?  That's the very best place to start.  Then read some of the posts in our Beach & Shallow Water board for some general tips for beach and surf hunting.
And yes, KEEP QUIET about what you find unless you want everyone and his/her brother claiming that it is their lost watch, ring, coin, etc.  If anyone asks you how you are doing, show them the bottle tops, pull tabs, fish hooks, weights, nickels, and pennies that you have uncovered.....And do make sure you keep the junk until you can dispose of it (even if it is in the nearest trash can).  Make sure you fill your holes, even in the sand.   Most of all have fun and don't get discouraged if it takes a while to get the hang of what you are doing and your machine.

Libby, Good luck on your hunt!. Welcome from Tampa. We are having an off season this year but I still go once or twice a week. I guess it is the high price of gas that is keeping the beach goers away.  Saturday I was at Clearwater and there were almost as many detectors  there as there were swimmers. That is unusual. Like B.A. says don't get discouraged. Right when you think there are nothing but pop tops on the beach is when you find the gold ring. Gambol

Welcome from NM.    You should be doing well around there after you figure out the machine. Cool
